Jesus lived in PALESTINE, a country in the Middle East.
Palestine is also known as Israel or the Holy Land.
* There were three main areas of Palestine in Jesus’ time. These were: GALILEE, SAMARIA, and JUDEA
1. Galilee was mostly a rural area (farming area) where Greek and Roman cultures were popular. * Nazareth was a town in the hills of Galilee, where Jesus grew up. * Capernaum was a town near the Sea of Galilee, where much of Jesus’ public ministry took place. These were the three years that He preached and did miracles publicly. * Cana was a town in Galilee where Jesus did his first miracle.
2. Samaria was a town in Central Palestine. * People who lived here avoided the Jewish people because they were thought to be heretics (people who are against the established religious beliefs).
3. Judea was a hot, dry area in Southern Palestine. * Bethlehem was the town in Judea where Jesus was born. * Jerusalem was the town where Jesus died.
The Jordan River runs between the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea. Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River.
* Jerusalem was a holy city because the TEMPLE was there. - This city is still sacred (holy) for three major religions today: Jews, Christians and Muslims. - All of these religions are monotheistic; they all believe there is only ONE GOD. - Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad lived in the Holy Land.
Activity 1: You will now need to create a Google Map which identifies the following places that Jesus visited during his life.
Nazareth
Bethlehem
Jerusalem
Dead sea
Mediterranean Sea
Sea of Galilee
Samaria
Jordan River
Judea
Galilee
For each of the places identified, you need to add a description on your map outlining what Jesus did there. A photo to represent this event should also be included on your map.
NB: The following link to a Map of Biblical places that Jesus visited should be the only link you will need to assist you in finding the information to complete this task.
If you have forgotten how to use Google My Maps, please follow this link for a refresher on how to use the program.
Once you have completed this. Show your teacher and get their initials on your contents page.
